The mermaid is an enduring mythical image. This lovely ceramic relief of a mermaid was made in Turin, Italy by Otto Marani for Lenci, 1930s. The evocative rendering is elegant and classically Art Deco.

Patinated Perfection

 

One of our most celebrated names in German Pottery is that of Richard Uhlemeyer (1900-1954), whose work enjoyed a 6 month retrospective at the Keramik-Museum-Berlin in 2011. This type of glaze is called a "copper reduction" giving the coloration a patinated look. The purposefully crazed or variegated surface gives the piece an antiqued appeal. At 22"h x 15"w - this large vase is monumental in both scale and as an artistic achievement.

Bejeweled Box

A rarified gift fit for royalty. This artisan made objet d'art consists of faux gemstones created in crystalline glass embedded in a 24k gold glaze. Made in France circa 1960. The heavy lid sits atop a rosewood box lined in felt. This style work is generally seen in similarly bejeweled French mirrors, but this is the only box we've seen. A little treasure designed to hold your other treasured baubles.

You Have To Urn It

A last gasp of late Deco styling by Thorkild Olsen (1890-1973) for  Royal Copenhagen circa 1950.
Large, exceptionally rare and maybe the best example we've ever seen. In celadon and grey crackle glazed stoneware with 24k gold trim, 18 inches tall. Recently acquired from the estate of a prominent Chicago art collector.
 Thorkild Olsen was a key figure in transforming Royal Copenhagen into one of the world's most cutting edge and luxurious manufacturers of porcelain and stoneware, he started painting fine porcelain by hand in 1908 while still attending art school, he went on to become one of the most important artists at the company.
 His work is represented in the collections of many museums including, The Royal Copenhagen Museum of Art & Design, Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris and the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza Italy.

Galleon Chic

There's a certain subset of Art Deco design that is very sailing ship/galleon influenced, I'm thinking of the lantern at the top of New York's Consolidated Edison Building and Hearst Castle in California.
 Our Art Deco vase was designed by Andre Delatte (French, 1887-1953) in the 1920s.
Sand blasted acid etched glass, side of vase is signed "Jarvil Nancy". Delatte was part of the Nancy school, along with Galle, Daum, and Muller.
  7 inches tall.

Art Deco Argenta

Our collection of "Argenta" series vessels is ever expanding - These deco treasures were created for Swedish firm Gustavsberg & designed by Wilhelm Kage in the 30s/40s. They always feature elaborate sterling silver decorations inlaid on a mottled blue/green stoneware base. The giant presentation piece (17") has an inscription in Swedish that dates the monumental covered jar to 1942.

Bergdorf Decor

 

Once again we're honored to be the source of vintage glass for the visual display team of Bergdorf Goodman, lead by the talented Salvatore Lenzo. The main theme of this seasonal presentation was tortoise shell Italian glass, which we custom curated over a several month period leading up to the current holiday unveiling on their 2nd floor. We just love what they did, placing our glass in these seasonal woodland wonderland vignettes - the result is warm, inviting, cozy and chic.

Glamorous Blasts from the Past

This pair of spectacular and entirely unique candle sticks were made by Claude Victor Boeltz- a self-described "Erosurrealist Master Artist". They were created expressly for Cartier Paris in the 1970s. This signature technique is what Victor refers to as “exploded bronze” - 24KT gold plated bronze, decorated with African quartz crystals. These are certainly as much fine art sculpture as they are candelabras.
